Our History

The Balboa Boat Yard was originally founded as Blackie’s Boat Yard in 1964 and was unmistakable with the trademark orange equipment & signage. During the early years, the yard quickly earned a well-deserved reputation for quality craftsmanship at a fair price. For over 20 years, Blackie’s Boat Yard continued to serve Newport Harbor as a premier local shipyard.

In the mid 1980’s, Blackie’s became the Balboa Boat Yard, and although the yard colors became slightly more subdued, the tradition of pride and personal service continues to this day. Over the past 25 years the Balboa Boat Yard has maintained the same dedication to providing clients with quality craftsmanship at a fair price.
